Improving your standing on Google is definitely one of the things that all new website owners want to achieve. To some, it may seem like a goal that is so far out there that its almost impossible to reach. The truth is; in fact, its definitely within your reach if you apply the right strategies and use the right tools along the way. Applying effective SEO techniques, will ensure that you are on the right track and will help your website rank vary good in the search engine results.
Tools Of The Trade
First off, you must get yourself a Google Account if you don’t already have one. By just having one account, you will be able to access the many different tools that Google offers, such as:
- Webmaster Tools
- Google Analytics
- Adsense
- Adwords
Next, once you have your Google account setup, you should work on setting up your Webmaster Tools account. With this tool, you can:
- Submit a sitemap
- Verify your site
- View how many sites are linking to your site
- Check for crawl errors
- And perform diagnostics

A resource that you absolutely must make use of, is the Google Keyword Tool that is located within your AdWords account. With this tool, you can enter keywords and keyword phrases that will help you analyze and gather ideas to decide on the keywords to use for your website. This tool will rank the words and phrases base on the amount of traffic that each word or phrase receives on a monthly local or global basis.
The keywords with the highest searches are not always the best words and phrases to use. You must weight the competition that those keywords are recieving and the number of searches that they get.
Make Sure You Have Consistent Keywords Throughout Your Website Theme
In order for search engines; especially Google, to give your website a higher rank in their search results, you must be consistent with the keywords that you use on your pages. You should include these keywords on each page in your:
- Meta Title
- Meta Description
- Meta Keywords
- Alt Tags
- Header Tags
However, make sure that you do not use the same keywords and phrases on every page. Keep your keywords unique on your individual pages but, make sure they relate to your overall theme.

After doing this to all the pages of your website, their is an awesome tool that you can use to check the different pages of your website to make sure that your keywords appear in these different areas. You can then use this information to correct the areas that the tool finds for you. This tool is called the Web Page Analyzer and you can get it here.
Optimize Your Code So Google Can Crawl It!
Furthermore, Google does not see webpages as humans see them. Google views the pages in code to determine what content is of the highest relevance. This is why it pays to make sure that the code you use for your website or blog is clean and can be easily crawled by Google’s Bots. Another great tool in your arsenal to make sure that your website ranks above your competition on the web, is the W3C Markup Validation Service. This tool will check the code on your pages and find errors within the code that do not conform to current web standards. It will list these errors and show what line they occurred on! Then you can view your pages in an HTML editor and go to the lines specified to correct the errors.

To conclude, This will get you started on the right path towards optimizing your website or blog to rank higher in search engine result. You must stay committed to developing your website to stand out among your competition. Take the time to utilize these tools and you will reap the rewards of your hard work.
Remember That Content Is King
All these tools work and can have a dramatic affect on the results that you get. However, the one thing that is above all these, is the content that you present on your site. The subjects that you write about have to be valuable and easy to read. You must find out what others want to read about and write about that. Your content also has to be unique! I know your asking, “How can my content be unique when everyone else is writing about the same topics that interest me?” Well the answer; my friend, is to offer your own unique personality within your content. Be real! That is the key to success with writing articles and getting great responses from your readers. People want to connect with other people and they want to know that you care about what interests them and that you want to see them do well. I truly hope that this information that I have provided helps make things easier for others. I know that when I was starting out, I have a good friend that help me along the way and his advice was priceless. Thanks for reading my post! Any comments are welcome!
Definitely good advice for someone starting out! Do you know of any other good SEO tools?
I know of another one that is called Web CEO and it is software that you install on your computer. It is a tool that will help you get a list of keywords and keyphrases, build links by researching and locating the best potential link partners, and other useful functions. One other tool is Wordtracker! They have a free tool and a premium tool that you can use. Both of these tools are definitely worth looking into.
